'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the thrilling dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from outside the box, and his teammate promptly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the home end to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an extraordinary comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 during the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator shouting out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right wing-back after the team changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way Orient approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It seems as if they always find their target and they understand how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without much intensity. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the youngster from the local area in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His single match for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to interact with the lads but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
